Hmm so viel zum Ketchup, dann dachte ich mir gehen wir mal wieder vor zum herumspringen. Aber genau in diesem Moment spielt die Band einen Schmuse-Song, ich fragte mich schon ob ich doch noch auf der Florian Silbereisen Party gelandet bin. Die Band, bis dahin durch recht annehmbare Lieder durchaus meine Gunst genossen, war das in diesem Moment aus mit der Sympathie. Gut, herumspringen kann ich nicht, pogen geht auch nicht, da kein Mensch da ist und diejenigen die da in einem Hulahup – Stil getanzt haben, waren so alle ziemlich 40+. Ein Mädel hab ich auch nicht zum knutschen, Bierkrüge in die Menge schmeißen war auch nicht drin, da keine Menge vorhanden war und ich bei fast vollem Bewusstsein war. Den Ketchup-Teller hatte ich schon verwertet, aber nein halt, damit lässt sich ja noch was anderes anfangen. Also wieder Teller geschnappt  und schmierte meine Hand schön damit ein, so wie man das mit einer guten Nivea Handcreme macht. Dann nichts wie auf und in Richtung Security. Ich selbstsicheren Schrittes auf ihn zu, er Arme verschränkt bewusst desinteressiert und eine Tonne Gel in den drei Haaren. Ich freundlich un zuvorkommend wie ich bin will ihm zu seinem 50. Geburtstag gratulieren, geb ihm einen ordentlichen Klaps auf die Schulter und laber ihn erstmal zu über mein Musikblog. Er immer noch Arme verschränkt und ich will ihm endlich meine leckere Ketchup-Hand geben, also gratuliere ich ihm noch mal zum Geburtstag und strecke ihm die Hand nochmal entgegen. “Du hast doch heut Geburtstag oder?” und alles was er sagt ist “Warum!”. Kurze Rede, verwirrende Sätze und eine ergebnislose Geburtstagsgratulation später stand auch der zweite Security schon da. Stimmung angespannt. Extrem. Obwohl ich doch bloß zum Geburtstag gratulieren wollte. Aus, Schluss und Vorbei, “Schleich die!”, was ich dann auch tat. Hatte besseres zu tun. Zum Beispiel mich auszuziehen und mit ein paar anderen zu schmusen!

Um dem Sänger noch meine Zuneigung auszudrücken, gab ich ihm mein ein und alles!

Get Yourself Into It: Ich weiß noch ganz genau, als ich das erste mal ein Bild von dir gesehen hab und ein Interview mit dir gelesen hab. Ich musste wirklich lachen. Schlabriger Pulli, ein putziges Lachen, irgendwie der Vorzeigeschüler aus der 9A. Apropos wie war denn deine Schulzeit so?

DJ Kamikaze: Ja damals, die Backpacker-keep-it-real-Zeit. Meine Schulzeit war okay. Kleinstadt Gymasium, gut in Sport, Kunst und Geographie -  Alles andere war eher soso. Allerdings hatte ich ne menge Spass auch wenn
das mit den guten Noten nicht immer so hingehauen hat.
Ach, scheinbar ist meine Schule laut Focus auch beste Schule Deutschlands.

GYII: Bei der Google Suche bin ich noch auf dein altes Blog gestoßen und ich muss sagen, ich musste auch hier wieder sehr viel lachen als ich die Einträge gelesen hab! Was sagen eigentlich deine Freunde von dir, werden die auch andauernd von dir unterhalten?

DJ Kamikaze: Hm, ich wusste gar nicht, dass ich so ein Komiker bin. Aber ich glaube ich habe einen speziellen Humor mit dem manche Leute sehr gut umgehen koennen, manche eben gar nicht.
Weil ich sehr viel unterwegs bin, passieren viele Dinge die man nicht so genau vorausplanen kann. Explodierende Eddings am Security Check in Paris, Maedels die mich in Moskau auf “Gypsy-Hochzeiten” entfuehren oder ne Massen-Schlaegerei im Zug zwischen Shanghai und Nanjing.

GYII: Hast du jemals etwas von den Brüdern Grimm gelesen? Wie bist du auf deinen Namen gekommen?

DJ Kamikaze: Klaro! Ich bin mit dem Namen geboren wurden!

GYII: Blockflöte hab ich auchmal gespielt, aber dann wars vorbei mit meiner musikalischen Begeisterung. Glaubst du wenn ich weitergemacht hätte, dass ich’s auch soweit gebracht hätte wie du? Kannst du uns mal bitte deine Karriere ein bisschen schildern? Was ratest du Dj Newcomern?

DJ Kamikaze: Keine Ahnung, hat sich irgendwie so ergeben. Ich habe immer Tapes fuer meine Freunde aufgenommen und hatte nicht einmal einen DJ Namen.
Mein erstes “Booking” war dann ein Gastspiel in der Dorf-Disco weil mich ein Freund gezwungen hat. Ich wollte zu erst gar nicht. So ging das langsam los. Nach dem Abitur habe ich in Stuttgart
Zivildienst geleistet und bin danach nach Hamburg gezogen fuers Studium. Waerend dieser Zeit hatte ich nebenher immer Zeit weiter Mixtapes auf zunehmen. All die Tapes mit big Names wie DJ Dice von Meth & Red oder Mem-Brain der damals dicke mit Tomekk war haben dann geholfen Bookings in ganz Deutschland zu bekommen. Mit “Radiotuning,” das mir neben Beef mit Jan Eisfeld (DJ Flashdance) einbrachte auch Mixtape des Monats bei der JUICE wurde ging es dann ab. Ich wuerde jetzt mal behaupten es war das erste MASH UP Mixtape in Deutschland. Und es hagelte dann nur so Bookings.
Gleichzeitig ging es langsam los mit Serato bez. zuerst Final Scratch und ich musste nicht jedes mal “Smells like Teen Spirit” von meiner grossen Schwester auf Vinyl ausleihen. Ich glaube auch in war in Hamburg der erste der das benutzt hat. Mirko Machine hat mich deswegen fast geboxt und Typen wie Stylwarz haben das nur so belaechelt… Witzigerweise haben beide jetzt ein Serato. Allerdings gab es auch sehr viele Leute in diesem Zeitraum so vor 3-4 Jahren die den gleichen Film gefahren haben wie ich. Kid Fresh, DJ Beware, Passion & Schowi, DJ Chrome, DJ Equal und Micha aus New York die jetzt mit Diplo unterwegs sind. Uns war allen klar, dass wir die neue Generation von DJ’s sind.

GYII: Du hast auch schon für längere Zeit im kalten Russland gearbeitet und bist momentan in China. Gabs bei dir auch einen Kulturschock als du ausgewandert bist?

DJ Kamikaze: Ja auf jeden Fall. Russland war nicht wirklich ein Schock dagegen China um so mehr. Deswegen habe ich auch angefangen alles zu bloggen, Bilder zu machen weil viele Dinge einfach keiner geglaubt
haette, wenn ich das nicht per Digi-Cam festgehalten haette.

GYII: Als ich das erste mal in Shanghai war, dachte ich mir “Wie fett ist das hier eigentlich?” ich war total überwältigt. Wie gings dir da, zum ersten mal in der Stadt die das Tor zu China represäntiert?

DJ Kamikaze: Bestimmt ähnlich. Mittlerweile hat sich das gelegt und New York und Wien sind wieder meine Lieblingsstadte. Shanghai hat eben dieses “Babylon-Ding” an sich und es ist sehr schwierig davon los zu kommen.

GYII: Und wie schaut’s mit den chinesischen Frauen aus? Kannst du da aus eigener Erfahrung berichten?

DJ Kamikaze: Als ich nach China kam dachten alle ich sei schwul (haha). Liegt daran, dass ich nicht wirklich viel mit China-Chinesinen anfangen kann. Optisch auf jeden Fall aber oft ist der kulturelle Unterschied fuer mich
zu gross und ich bin recht schnell genervt. Gucci Bags, unheimliche Handy-Klingetoene und die Behauptung in meinem Fahrstul wohnt ein Geist ist fuer mich zu merkwuerdig.
Davon abgesehen bin ich jetzt seit ner Weile mit ner netten Frau aus Bratislava zusammen.

GYII: Wie ist das Nachtleben in China? Wie unterscheidet sich das zum deutschen Nachtleben?

DJ Kamikaze: Shanghai super International. Heißt im Club sind Leute von ueberall her. Dass macht es natürlich spannender als ne Disse in Koelle wo alle auch
zusammen in der Schule waren. Mann trifft Leute von jedem Typ, Beruf, Schwul, Straight, Models, Ticker und endlos viele Leute die nur auf “Durchreise” sind.
Job-projekt in Asien oder so. Nur fuer 3 Monate in der Stadt, da sitzt der Euro dann eben recht locker und die Hemmungen auch.

GYII: Willst du eigentlich dauerhaft in Shanghai bleiben oder spielst du mit dem Gedanken wieder zurück nach Deutschland zu gehen?

DJ Kamikaze: Ich bin 4-6 mal in Deutschland. Meine Freundin Jana hält mich hier und eben dieser Babylon Effekt. Ich mag Deutschland nach wievor aber momentan brauche ich noch etwas
Chaos.

GYII: 21. Jahrhundert, Klimawandel, Obama wollte die Kilmawende einleiten. Was machst du als DJ um diesen Planeten zu bewahren?

DJ Kamikaze: Ich komme mit dem BMX zu meinen Gigs in Shanghai.

Get Yourself Into It: I closely remember the moment when I first read an interview with you and saw you on a picture. To tell you this moment was quite funny because you weared this baggy jumper grining like a cheshire cat. You reminded me of those nerds in junior high. By the way talking of junior high how were your school days?

DJ Kamikaze: Oh yea back then it’s an adventurous time but concerning my schooltime it’s generally okay. I grewn up in a small town and went to the local academic high school. My grades weren’t extraordinary but gym classes, art classes and geography were one of my good subjects. Indeed schooltime was real fun although as I said I haven’t been always the best student. By the way according to the german magazine Focus my school is the best within Germany.

GYII: Clicking through all these tons of results about you I came across your old blog and to be honest again I had to laugh a lot because of your funny posts. Is it like you’re entertaining all your friends you’re joking about everything?

DJ Kamikaze: Well I didnt know that I’m such a gagman but I think I’ve got a very special kind of humour which not everyone person shares. And some are really cool with that. It’s also because I travel a lot and there are like things happening that you never would have imagined. Like Sharpies exploding at the Parisian security check, some girls kidnapping me to take me to some Gypsy weddings or a free-for-all in the train from Shanghai to Nanjing.

GYII: Did you ever read a book by the famous german authors Grimm? How did you conceive the idea of your artist name Dj Kamikaze aka Handsomeboyhensel?

DJ Kamikaze: Sure! I was born with this name!

GYII: A long time I’ve also been playing the flute, because you said you started with a flute, but this was practically the end of my musical excitement. Do you think in case I’d have proceeded with my flute training that I’d also be some hip and trendy DJ now? Could you tell us a bit about your career and maybe give the newcomer DJs among us some tips?

DJ Kamikaze: Actually it just so happened that I’m now a hip and trendy DJ. But I was always making some tapes for friends without even having a proper DJ name. My first booking then was when my friend forced me to play a the hamlet disco. At the beginning I didn’t want to do this but retrospectively this was the very beginning of my career. After finishing school I made my civilian service in Stuttgart and then moved to Hamburg for my studies. During this time I was continuing the thing with my mixtapes. And what made me help succeeding was doing tapes with all those big name DJs like DJ Dice (Meht & Red) or Mem-Brain. Besides those mixtapes I had some connections to DJ Tomekk through my DJ friends. Also the “Radiotuning” show brought some beef with Jan Eisfeld (DJ Flashdance) on and as my mixtape finally was voted the monthly number 1 in the well-known JUICE magazine there was like a lot going on. I claim that this mixtape was actually the very first MASH UP mixtape in Germany and yea after that I was virtually booked out. At the same time the digital DJing started with Serato or firstly with Final Scratch and I didn’t have to borrow the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” vinyl EP from my big sister anymore. I think I was also the very first DJ who used this technology in Hamburg. Mikro Machine (a german rap and hip-hop artist) almost beat me up and guys like Stylwarz (german DJ) sneered at me. Funnily enough both of them nowadays use Serato. Certainly there have been a lot of people doing the same during those past 3 – 4 years. DJs like Kid Fresh, DJ Beware, Passion & Schowi, DJ Equal and Micha from New York doing their thing with Diplo. I mean like everybody was aware that we’re the new generation of DJs.

GYII: You have been working as DJ in Russia for a longer period of time and you’re currently in China. Did you experience any kind of a cultural shock after out-migrating?

DJ Kamikaze: Yea sure. But Russia wasn’t that hard, China again was particularly dire. That’s also the reason why I blogged so much and took so many photos, otherwise nobody would have believed my stories if I didn’t take evidence.

GYII: The first time that I’ve been to Shanghai I thought like “Wow, this city is totally wicked!” I was absolutely overwhelmed. How was it for you being the first time in China?

DJ Kamikaze: I definitely felt something similar to your experience. But in the meantime this feeling subsided and New York and Vienna are my most favourite cities again. You know Shanghai is somehow like Babylon and it’s hard to live without that entity.

GYII: What about chinese women? Did have a raltionship with one of them?

DJ Kamikaze: As I was coming to China everybody thought that I’m gay which I personally think is really funny. That’s because I have very little use for chinese women. First of all the cultural gap seems mostly to big to overcome and they’re bringing me pretty fast on the edge. Those Gucci bags, creepy ringtones and the thesis that there lives a ghost in my elevator is just to odd for me. Apart from this I’m in a permanent relationship with a nice girl from Bratislava.

GYII: How about the night life in China? What’s the difference compared to german night life?

DJ Kamikaze: Well Shanghai is very international which means the people in the club are from all around the world. Which is like way more thrilling than some disco in Cologne where everybody knows everbody back from their school days. In Shanghai you can hit all kind of different people, gay, straigth, models, tickers and of course a lot of people who are making just a short stay here. Whether it’ll be some job-project in Asia or they’re staying here just for 3 months which is also the reason why there’re expending money quite unworriedly.

GYII: Do have any plans to re-imigrate to Germany or do you want to stay in Shanghai for an even longer time?

DJ Kamikaze: I’m back in Germany up to 4 or 6 times a year. My girlfriend Jana is actually the reason I’m still here and of course the babylon effect that I already described. But although I still like Germany however I need this chaotic time here just a little bit longer.

GYII: So we’re in the 21st century and a lot of people are talking about climate change. Obama wanted turn USA into a pioneer concerning green technologies. What do you as a DJ do to preserve this planet for coming generations?

DJ Kamikaze: I go by my BMX to my shows.

Hey everybody! It’s now about 23.25 and I’m making this post without having a particularly subject or topic in mind to write about. To be exact I’m currently wasting your time because I haven’t anything to say right now. Whatever just to tell you I experienced that it’s pretty hard to talk about new bands or a new DJ every day. I know that daily blog post are neccessary but always posting a top 5 of some remixes isn’t the real deal. Ok but I should look ahead for the next week and well I can tell you there’s a new featured artist of the week. I’m really proud to announce that because I’m a big fan of this artist.
